Argus overview

Argus is Naijacloud's monitoring. It tells you when your app throws an error, goes down or misses a scheduled run, and it works the same for apps hosted on Naijacloud and apps hosted anywhere else.

What Argus does

ModuleWhat it watches
ErrorsExceptions from your code, sent by any Sentry SDK and grouped into issues
Argus SDKsOne package per language for errors, logs, metrics, traces, cron check-ins and flags
Uptime checksURLs, ports, DNS records and TLS certificates, checked from Nigeria, Europe and the US
Cron monitorsScheduled jobs that ping Argus when they run, so a run that never happens is noticed
Status pagesA public page for your own customers, built from your monitors
AlertsRules over your metrics, errors and logs, sent by email, Slack or a webhook. Uptime and cron alerts reach the same channels
Traces, metrics & logsOpenTelemetry, Prometheus remote-write, a log drain, and Grafana reading it back
Website scriptPage views, custom events, Web Vitals and feature flags from your site, without cookies

Open Argus from Argus in the dashboard sidebar. It uses your Naijacloud account and workspace: there is no separate sign-up, and the workspace's members are the people Argus emails.

Sources

A source is one app as Argus sees it, such as checkout-api or storefront-web. Each source has a DSN, a URL that carries the source's public key and project number:

DSN format
https://<public key>@argus-in.naijacloud.com/<project id>

The same key covers every signal for that app. Error SDKs use the whole DSN; OpenTelemetry exporters, Prometheus, the log drain and the website script use the public key on its own.

Add sources under Argus → Sources. There are two ways to connect one:

  • A Naijacloud service. One switch on a web service or cron job. Argus creates the source and adds the SDK settings to the service at its next deploy. See Errors.
  • An app hosted anywhere. AWS, a VPS, your laptop. Name the app, copy its DSN, and point an SDK at it.

What is never stored

Argus removes sensitive data before anything is written, so it never reaches storage or a log line:

  • Request headers such as Authorization, Cookie and X-Api-Key, and request cookies entirely.
  • Values of fields whose names contain words like password, secret, token, api_key, session, card, cvv, pin or bvn. They become [Filtered].
  • Anything that looks like a card number or a bearer token, wherever it appears.
  • IP addresses, unless a workspace owner or admin turns IP storage on under Argus → Settings.

Where the data lives

Argus stores your data on Naijacloud's own monitoring servers in Germany, in the EU, separate from the servers your apps run on. How long errors are kept is set under Argus → Settings, within the range your plan allows.

Plans and pricing

Argus has a Free plan and two paid plans, Pro and Scale, priced in naira on the pricing page. A paid plan comes out of your Naijacloud balance by the hour, like a service. Change plan, and see how much you've used this month, under Argus → Usage & plan (the workspace owner chooses the plan).
