Status pages
A status page tells your customers whether your service is working, before they have to ask. It is built from the monitors and cron jobs you already have, and it is served from a copy that doesn't depend on your app.
Building a page
Open Argus → Status pages, choose a name, and add what the page should show:
- Rows are your monitors and cron jobs, arranged in named groups such as "API" or "Payments". Anything you don't add stays off the page.
- The look. The page's name, one line under it, a logo (an
https://link to an SVG or PNG, at least 64 px tall) and an accent colour.
Each row shows its current state and a bar per day for the last 90 days, with the uptime over that period. The figures are the same as on the monitor's own page: only downtime the locations agreed on counts. See Uptime percentages.
The headline at the top is the title of an open incident post, if there is one. Otherwise it is the measured state, such as "Everything is working."
Choose Publish to make the page live, and Unpublish to take it down.
The address
A page is published at its own address, shown in the builder, of the form:
https://pages.naijacloud.com/<slug>A custom domain
To serve it from your own domain, such as status.storefront.ng, enter the
domain in the builder and add a CNAME record for it pointing at the target the
builder shows. Argus checks the record every couple of minutes until it
matches, then daily, and the builder shows DNS verified once it does. Until
then the page stays at its default address.
Staying up when you are down
A status page is most needed when everything else is failing. Argus renders each published public page to a static copy and serves that copy directly, so nothing in the path calls your app or Argus itself. The copy is refreshed when the page's content changes, and at least every 10 minutes.
Password-protected pages
Give the page a password to make it private, for an internal page or one customer. A password page is served by Argus rather than from the static copy, so it does depend on Argus being up.
Posting updates
When something goes wrong, say so on the page rather than letting the bars speak for you. A post is either:
| Kind | Stages |
|---|---|
| Incident | Investigating, Identified, Monitoring, Resolved |
| Maintenance | Scheduled, In progress, Completed |
Add updates to a post as things change. Each one shows on the page at once.
Subscribers
Visitors can subscribe to a page by email. Subscriptions are double opt-in: the visitor confirms from an email first. Confirmed subscribers are emailed every post and update, with an unsubscribe link in each.
